A retreat with church views
Planning approval in a Canonbury conservation area shaped this V-shaped garden studio. Its angled form follows an oblique plot and opens towards the garden, with views of a nearby Gothic church. The red cement-board facade is scored with lines that echo the church's arches, and low fins help it settle into the planting.
Inside, a sloping coffered ceiling in warm marine plywood rises over a room used as a lounge, gym and home office, with a storage room alongside. Underfloor heating, air conditioning, TALA lights and bespoke furniture make it comfortable all year.
